The Canton Fair, officially known as the China Import and Export Fair, is China's longest-standing, largest-scale, and most comprehensive international trade fair in terms of the number of participating countries and the variety of products. It is hailed as China's premier exhibition.
Historical Evolution
Establishment and Development: The Canton Fair was founded in 1957, initially named the "China Export Commodities Fair." It is held biannually in Guangzhou, in spring and autumn. Since 1965, the Canton Fair has become an important channel for China's export earnings, with its annual export turnover once accounting for over 30% of the country's total annual export value.
Transformation and Upgrading: In 2007, the fair was officially renamed the "China Import and Export Fair," evolving from a single export platform to a two-way trading platform for both imports and exports. Since then, the Canton Fair has continuously optimized its exhibition layout, introduced more emerging industries and high-end manufacturing sectors, and promoted the transformation of "Made in China" to "Created in China" and "Intelligent Made in China."
Exhibition Scale and Features
Exhibition Scale: The 137th Canton Fair covered a total exhibition area of 1.55 million square meters, with approximately 74,000 booths and around 31,000 participating companies. For the first time, the number of companies participating in the export exhibition exceeded 30,000, while the import exhibition featured 736 companies from 50 countries and regions.
Exhibition Layout: The fair is divided into three phases, themed "Advanced Manufacturing," "Quality Home," and "Better Life," respectively. It comprises 55 exhibition areas and 172 product zones. This edition of the fair also introduced new zones for service robots and integrated housing for the first time.
Participants: Among the participating companies, over 9,700 are high-quality enterprises with titles such as specialized, refined, unique, and new (SRUN), single-item champions, and high-tech enterprises. The Canton Fair also attracted many well-known international companies, including Walmart from the United States and Carrefour from France.
